StepStrum

StepStrum is a MIDI strumming plugin that turns held chords into realistic, tempo-synced strummed performances for guitar libraries, synths, pianos, pads, and more.

StepStrum 1.1 adds chord-relative single-note steps. Pro adds MIDI pattern keyswitching for $39 USD.

New in StepStrum 1.1

The current release expands StepStrum patterns while keeping existing projects, presets, and pattern banks compatible.

Strums and single notes

StepStrum patterns can now combine upward and downward strums with Low, Mid-Low, Mid-High, and High single-note steps in both Lite and Pro.

Chord-relative selection

Single-note steps select positions within the chord being held, so the pattern follows the harmony as the performer changes chords.

MIDI pattern keyswitching

StepStrum Pro adds MIDI pattern keyswitching, letting a MIDI keyboard or controller switch among its eight pattern slots.

From held chords to finished rhythm parts

Rhythmic sequencing

A 16-step grid shows each move in the pattern. Activate steps, choose strums or single-note chord tones, and hear the result immediately.

Performance response

Hold any chord voicing and StepStrum reads the notes in real time. Timing, swing, and humanize controls stay on the surface.

Session speed

Eight pattern slots keep variations close. In Pro, MIDI pattern keyswitching lets a keyboard or controller select among them during playback.

Hear the Difference

Hear the same groove with and without StepStrum. The drums and bass stay the same — only the chord performance changes.

Clean Guitar

The same chord progression played as simple keyboard chords, then performed through StepStrum.
